Guest Post #1: Heather Andrachuk

Over the course of the free school, I'll be asking people to post their impressions of the goings-on. The first guest poster is Heather Andrachuk, lichenologist extraordinnaire and leader of Friday's workshop on forest monitoring. Heather drove out from Hamilton, ON to teach a session.

Arriving at Waldegrave Farm in the dark has kept me in suspense of what's to come at the Free School. Pretty much all of the action has been in the kitchen so far (including a very warm welcome with lots of hugs, still-warm muffins, and great music), but I know that there is a lot of excitement waiting all over the farm and the property in general.

It's 11:30 and Yuill has just brewed a new pot of coffee... I have no idea what he's plotting, but I know it'll be fantastic as usual.

Jason has been working his magic, hasn't stopped moving all evening, creating amazing things in the kitchen and keeping all of us smiling and working.

Hillary, Rob, Meg, and Cammie are in and out of the house, telling me about the new chicks, ducklings, pigs, "the bike shop" and filling me in on the amazing things they've been doing over the last few months.

And Dru, in his typical quiet, calm fashion amidst the organized chaos, has been creating this blog.

Because of all of these wonderful people, this year's Free School promises to be incredible.
